The Maroni River Council, co-organized by the Sub-prefecture of Saint Laurent du Maroni and the Suriname Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of the Territorial Community of Guyana (CTG) and the Community of Western Guyana Communities (CCOG) took place on July 6, 2023 in Saint Laurent from Maroni. The French Ambassador to Suriname and Guyana, Nicolas de Lacoste, participated in this meeting between the authorities on the two banks of the Maroni River.

The four major topics covered were economy, environment, social issues and security. Various speakers presented the progress of cross-border cooperation projects taking place this year (e.g. bio-plateau project, cooperation between hospitals of Albina and Saint Laurent du Maroni).
