From August 25 to 27, 2023, Independence Square shone during the Fosten Kukru Festival.

The delicious smells and authentic ‘fosten’ dishes, prepared according to family recipes, took visitors on a culinary journey through time. The kotomisis on the square shone like living works of art, with their colors paying homage to the unity of Suriname’s rich culture.

This year, the Fosten Kukru Festival was given an extra dimension with the participation of the Nickerie rice district, which enriched the celebration with its own culinary flair. But it wasn’t just about food, the various performances also created a festive atmosphere.
