On December 20, 2023, the Court of Justice issued a final ruling in the Appeal of the December 8 criminal case. According to the Surinamese Code of Criminal Procedure, there is no longer any legal remedy available against this judgment. It is an inter partes judgment in which all relevant parties have had the opportunity to present their positions.
The suspects were not in the courtroom at the time of the verdict. All judgments have now been served, meaning that all convicts and their lawyers are now in possession of the judgment.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will now proceed with the execution of the sentence and will consult with the convicted persons and/or their lawyer to determine the day and date of the execution of the imposed sentence.
